The Queen loves the Arsenal

It’s in The Sun, and that’s about as official as it gets in the UK:

The Queen is an Arsenal fan, and has been for over 50 years. Good to know she appreciates quality football.

She follows in the footsteps of the former Queen Mother, who was also a mad Gooner and big admirer of legendary player Denis Compton who played for Arsenal in the 30s, 40s and 50s (and was also one of the greatest English cricketers).

HRH must have gotten a kick out of hosting a reception for the Arsenal team at Buckingham Palace this past February. I wonder if she has any ambitions of owning a team…because the way the Arsenal chairman has been speaking against the possibility of a hostile takeover from Stan Kroenke, he’d bite her arm off if she made an offer right now.

All the same, a bottomless pit of taxpayers money would help in the transfer market.
