With modern lifestyles time is one of the most valuable commodities and for a lot of people the time spent on holiday or vacation tends to be limited, so ensuring that the trip lives up to your expectations and doesn’t disappoint is one of the main things you have to think about each year.
Finding the right accomodation for you is a key ingredient to any memorable holiday, even if you plan to be active and get out to see the city or country your visiting, knowing you have a great base to come back to in the evening will always make you feel good and increase your enjoyment of the trip.
Directory of Hotels.com is a recent addition to the online travel industry, an independent guide and listing of quality accomodation worldwide. They feature everything from resort, luxury or spa hotels to boutique, all inclusive, eco friendly, b+b’s and smaller hotels. Escape the ordinary it says on their homepage and that’s what the hotels they’re listing are trying to offer.
The site has a stylish and clean layout, there’s a single dropdown menu for you to choose which destination area of the world you’re interested in visiting. Below that are a selection of the recently featured hotels with links to the individual hotel pages and on the right of the homepage are snapshots of the latest entries on Travelwire, Directory of Hotels.com’s blog written by the company’s founder Tanya Schliff, who shares her thoughts on travelling, the latest hotels, accessories, what to take and anything travel related. Also on the homepage is a link to the Hot List, a selection of some of the best of their newest member hotels.
Once you’ve chosen the region of the world you’re interested in, Europe for example, you can refine your search by picking from a menu of highlighted countries or a side menu of individual cities. Clicking on a specific country you’ll get a list of and links to member hotels and some general information on the country in question.
The hotels on the site are displayed under two types, basic or featured listings. Basic provides what it says, basic information on the hotel, with descriptions and a link, featured hotels have much more in depth detail on what the hotel has to offer as well as a selection of colour photos. There are full contact details and a price range, and a handy Hotel Booking Inquiry box where you can quickly email any queries direct to the hotel. All bookings of hotels on this site are done through the actual hotel.
Directory of Hotels.com have a monthly newsletter that you can sign up to where they’ll give you their recommendations on the latest hot places to stay in around the world. This is a well laid out and easy to navigate site, the one thing they’re lacking is probably a greater choice in individual cities, but that will come as the business grows and more hotels become members.
