The Great Exhibition 2007

ex.jpgIn 1857 The Great Exhibition was held in London’s Hyde Park, a world’s fair type event on from May to October that year to celebrate modern technology and design. The success of the exhibition led to some of London’s great museums and institutions such as the Royal College of Art, Imperial College and the Royal College of Music all moving to the area around what is now called Exhibition Road.

To mark the 150th anniversary the Royal College of Art, based on Kensington Gore, is holding its annual summer show for their graduating students under the title Great Exhibition 2007. A huge tent is being erected in Kensington Gardens close to the site of the orginal exhibition and this along with galleries in the college will allow them to show the work of all the 400+ students from the Schools of Fine & Applied Art, Architecture & Design, Communications, Fashion & Textiles and Humanities.

The Great Exhibition 2007 is on from 15-28 June and is open daily 12 noon-9pm, admission is free. High Street Kensington is the nearest Tube station.
