Canary Wharf Summer Galas

canary.jpgCanada Square Park in Canary Wharf is hosting a free series of live shows this month called the Canary Wharf Summer Galas. Here’s the schedule, they say no portable furniture is permitted. Map

17 July – Acoustic Band Night Susy Thomas, Gillan Edgar, Miles Winter Roberts, Sam Beeton,Yamit Mamo and Nick Hall each play a 20 minute set, starting at 7.30pm

18 July – The Lord Mayor’s Appeal Fiesta
Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba and Richard Bona. Bassekou Kouyate is one of the greatest masters of the traditional lute, the ngoni and is accompanied by the vocals of Ami Sacko and Ngoni ba, Mali’s first ngoni quartet. Richard Bona is a bass player, songwriter and vocalist and his songs have Latin, gypsy and African influences. Show starts 7.30pm.

20 July – Moya Brennan:The Voice of Clannad Legendary Irish singer gives a show featuring traditional melodies, her own compositions and Clannad classics. 7.30pm.

21 July – Wizardry Fun From 11am there’s exciting children’s activities throughout the day within Canary Wharf’s shopping Malls. At 5pm there’s a free outdoor screening of a children’s classic in Canada Square Park with free popcorn available from 4pm-6pm.

23 July – Classic Film Night:The Apartment Beginning at 7.30pm, Billy Wilder’s film starring Jack Lemmon won five Oscars.

24 July – Open Air Comedy Night A great lineup of comedians starts at 8pm.

25 July – Harold Lloyd’s Safety Last Classic Silent Film This screening has live music composed and conducted by Carl Davis and performed by the Live Cinema Orchestra. 7.30pm.

26 July – Georgie Fame and The Blue Flames Georgie Fame and his band blend of Jazz and rhythm and Blues. 7.30pm.

27 July – Salute to the Rat Pack Stars of the West End show ‘Rat Pack Confidential’, recreate the magic of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior, backed by the Peter Long Orchestra.
