Camden Green Fair and Bikefest 2007

camdengreen.jpgOn Sunday 3 June Regent’s Park hosts one othe biggest annual green events in London, the Camden Green Fair and Bikefest 2007. This is the 16th Green Fair and its held on the first Sunday in June to coincide with World Environment Day. Its a show where you can learn how to be greener and more environmentally friendly in your everyday life as well as enjoying an afternoon of free entertainment and events.

Among the things happening at the Fair are the Green House installation which shows how to further reduce your carbon footprint during your everyday activities at home, a Green Roadshow in a solar powered circus tent with workshops on different environmental issues, a Solar cinema with films for all ages, demonstrations of various crafts including sheep-shearing, blacksmiths, felt-making, sitar and drumming workshops where you can try playing the sitar and drums, and yoga classes.

Music takes place on the Open-air Stage and in the Jiggery Pokery Marquee and the artists performing include Harkishan a classically trained Asian musician, Northern Celts playing acoustic guitars, fiddle, flutes and whistles, Sur-Taal playing traditional Asian music, Anatolia a five piece Turkish/Kurdish band, The Bellagios fuse Reggae/ Funk/Rock/Latin, up-tempo folk band Chicken Shed Zeppelin and flamenco dance troupe Illusion Flamenca.

The Bikefest allows you to see and try a variety of bikes including ones for carrying children, as well as explaining bike security and safety. You can learn about the London Cycle Campaign and pick up a free cycle map and in the Dr Bike area you can take your bike for a quick check-up and light repairs. There’s a Green Car Showroom showing the latest hybrid green cars and scooters and giving information on the most eco-friendly cars. You can test drive the vehicles on display but you must have your driving licence with you.

They’ll also be food stalls, an Ethical Fashion Show and activities for kids. The Camden Green Fair takes place on the eastern side of Regent’s Park in the area north from Chester Road, along past the Cumberland Gate up to towards the Gloucester Gate. Its on from 12noon-7pm and admission is free. Great Portland Street or Regent’s Park are the nearest Tubes.
