Australian War Memorial in London

In Hyde Park Corner, where Park Lane, Piccadilly, Grosvenor Place, Knightsbridge and Constitution Hill meet, you’ll find the Australian War Memorial, commemorating Australians who died fighting alongside Britons in two world wars.

Opened in November 2003, its contemporary design, with smooth stone, strong lines, and carved lettering on a curved wall, is reminiscent of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Designed by a team of Sydney architects, the memorial is made from 200 tons of Verde Laguna granite from Jerramungup, Western Australia. Its 8 foot-high curved wall bears the names of 24,000 Australian towns and 47 battle sites where Aussie servicemen were killed.
